How To Find Fb Post Id

When it comes to running ads on Facebook, engagement is king. Likes, comments and shares all signal to other users and Facebook that your post can be trusted. More positive engagement typically means a more successful ad. This engagement is what marketers call "Social Proof".

One thing many Facebook advertisers don't know how to do is how to use existing post engagement in a new ad. By using an existing post and the associated social proof, your new ad will have a huge head start on a post with no social proof. For scaling Facebook ads, this is essential.

Think about it. Are you more likely to click on a post with 1,000 likes or 0 likes? Social proof can make your ads cheaper, sometimes by as much as 50%.

Here's how to find a Facebook post ID and use it to maintain social proof on new ads.

How to Find a Facebook post ID

Very simply, Facebook gives every post a unique ID. This ID lets you pull the exact post, complete with ad copy, the URL and any social proof.

There are several ways to find it:

Method 1 – Desktop post preview

First, open the Facebook ad you want the post ID for in Ads Manager. Navigate to the ad preview. Select "Facebook Desktop News Feed" from the dropdown menu.

This will open a demo ad in your News Feed. In the URL there is a "feed_demo_ad=" parameter followed by a string of numbers. This string of numbers is the post ID.

To use this ID to transfer any existing engagement, first copy it then head back over the Ads Manager. Select "Use Existing Post", the enter the post ID into the field. Hit "Submit" and the post associated with the ID you just copied will be imported. Easy!

Method 2 – Page Posts

If you only have a small number of posts, using the Page Posts section of Business Manager is another quick way to find the ID.

First, open the "Page Post" section from the Business Manager menu. Select the post you want the ID for. At the top of the expanded section, below "Post Details" you'll see "ID:" with a string of numbers. Copy that and paste it into the "Use Existing Post" section as described above.

Method 3 – Keep the "Show existing reactions, comments and shares on new ads" checked when duplicating

A recent Business Manager update has made transferring social proof significantly easier. It's simply a matter of keeping the "Show existing reactions, comments and shares on new ads" box checked when duplicating an ad.

When this box is checked, all social proof will be be used in new ads. Much easier than the above methods!

Unfortunately, this method only works when transferring social proof within an ad account when using the same Facebook page. You can't use it to transfer social proof of a post between ad accounts. That's where methods one and two become useful.

Finding a Facebook post ID and transferring social proof is easy

There you have it. Three easy ways to find a post ID. With these methods, you're able to kickstart your ads performance by leveraging social proof and get better ad performance. Kick this technique into high gear by running "page post engagement" ads first to build up social proof quickly before using the post in your conversion campaigns.
